On this seminar three men with knowledge of the anatomy of hit singles will subject five SPOT bands and their releases to a kind treatment. Producer/songwriter Peter Steengaard, writer and musician Morten Jaeger and English Robert Strachan are going to speak bluntly, telling the bands where they are on the hit scale. They will also spill a few secrets to help musicians on their way to the great alchemistic goal: To create hit songs.
Morten Jaeger
Morten Jaeger, Master of Arts in music, teaches both at Copenhagen Institute for Science of Music and at the Music Management-line of Conservatory of Rythmical Music. In addition, he is a prolific musician and composer with the music for plays such as “Hardcore Livingroom” and “After Party” to his name and a debut album coming up. Together with Henrik Marstal, he has written a critically acclaimed book on the formula of the hit.
Peter Stengaard
Producer Peter Stengaard has not been idle since he graduated from The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus four years ago. After a couple of years in London and productions at home for TV-2 and Mathias Grip, he has settled in Los Angeles where he works for extremely successful songwriters such as Dianne Warren. This means that some of the planet's greatest pop artists circle around his studio. Peter Stengaard is especially good at producing pop songs. One of his productions from this year is a hit single for JC Chavez from N'sync.
Robert Strachan (UK)
Robert Strachan is employed at the internationally esteemed Institute of Popular Music at University of Liverpool. His work focuses on issues concerning the music industry, and he is editor of the magazine Popular Music History. Furthermore, he is an active musician and a trustee at Liverpool's cultural centre FACT. He is also responsible for running the head office of the international scholar network International Association for the Study of Popular Music.
Neill C. Furio (US) (moderator)
American rock-poet Neill C. Furio fell in love with Denmark even before his first sip of Cocio. Raised on moody Carl Th. Dreyer silent films at his parents' North Carolina drive-in, young Neill absorbed Nordic bittersweetness pre-verbally. Years later, he wrote his first songs at the sleek Danish modern table that decorated his childhood home. Nowadays, he brings his wonderfully ’finurlige’ words and music to DK as a performer, producer, and teacher. You can hear him on "Swimmingly", Marie's Frank's very own Frank sings Furio CD. |
